e-zine launch: SL Business

SL Business is a recently launched e-zine focussed on business and entrepreneurship within the virtual world of Second Life (read more posts on SL). like the Metaverse Messenger, a weekly publication with a more general approach, it is mainly distributed as free pdf-file. moreover, SL Business can be read in-world via notecards or ordered as physical paper-print (USD 10,-). on 60 pages (sounds impressive, but there are plenty of fullpage-advertisements, not always disclosed 100%), SL Business’ first issue covers a variety of topics like in-world-photography, graphic- & 3D-design, fashion, investment opportunities, trademark- & copyright-issues and streaming audio. most articles are appealing, but as 3pointD reports, they rarely go beyond the essentials. I guess that’s okay, since business in SL just recently has emerged to a broader audience – let’s hope that SL Business’ next issue will go more into detail. I’ld also appreciate interviews with leading SL-inhabitants (designers, site-owners etc.). on a sidenote: unlike similar pdf-magazines, SL Business’ layout and design looks rather tasty & professional.

if you’re interested in Second Life and speak German, you might want to check out my 4page-feature in the current issue of thegap (including an interview with design-shooting star Aimee Weber). I’ll try to post some pdf’s of the article later on…
