yes, there are indeed webapps coming from Austria (my home-country, in case you wonder)! although, tag2find isn’t really a webapp, but rather a local application migrating the highly successful web-metaphor of ‘tagging’ to local (Windows XP-)desktops. tag2find integrates common tagging-functionality for local files into Windows Explorer, displays tagclouds and offers a handy TagBox to tag [...]
I got an invite to Hey!Watch’s private beta today, and after trying it out I agree that it’s a very useful tool for collecting online-video. after installing the firefox-extension (works with Flock as well) or the provided bookmarklet, it’s just a single click to bring online video to your mobile player. Hey!watch seems to work [...]
after a short but very much-required hiatus for myself, it’s time to pick up this blog with various bits of news I stumbled upon during the last days…kind-of emulating Marc Canter’s primary posting-style…
while most users are still waiting for their Gmail-accounts to fetch external POP-mail, Google Operating System has got some screenshots & descriptions. Gmail [...]
leading music-recommendation service Pandora introduced some community-related features earlier this week (check their official blog for the full scope). however, listener-profiles (including listings of tracks which received most thumbs-ups & -downs) and a very basic search for listeners, artists & stations can’t really keep up with advanced community-features offered by last.fm. f.e., Pandora lacks last.fm’s [...]
Niall Kennedy writes about a new del.icio.us API allowing to query the top tags & number of bookmarks of any given URL. while the API hasn’t been released officially yet, Yahoo! developer network already features a screencast introducing some of its capabilities. currently, the API seems to consist of a single URL which returns data [...]
social-news site digg.com announced a major upgrade earlier today. besides some changes in user-interface and frontpage-composition, biggest news is the integration of online-video and podcasts in the top-level navigation. podcasts can be dugg either by series or episode, playback for both audio- & video works straight from inside digg. popular footage from social-video sites like [...]
if you’re bored by the never-changing look of Wordpress’ backend-interface, you might want to try out Steve Smith’ Tiger Administration plugin. don’t expect changes in functionality, since the plugin is purely based on CSS modifications. still, a welcome refurbishment… (found on Christian Spanring’s blog)
Google’s latest search-asset indexes 7mio. patents registered with the United States Patent & Trademark Office for full-text retrieval. unfortunately, search-results can’t be sorted by date of issuing, inventor or assignee of patent…(btw, sorting is a feature missing in most common search-engines currently…why is that? f.e., sorting for latest-update would make a lot of sense imho).
StumbleUpon, a browser-plugin (firefox & IE) suggesting websites based on personal preferences and collaborative opinion, has added StumbleVideo today. the feature acts as a one-click remotecontrol, allowing to zap through the latest videos of YouTube, Google Video & Myspace – of course, again based on your interest.
if you’ve hooked up your PC/Mac to the TV [...]
if you’re into music-recommendation & -exploration services, you might wanna check out Musicovery. set your preferred mood (energetic, dark, positive, calm), period (80ies, 90ies etc.) and musical genres, and Musicovery will generate a matching – though static – playlist. while this is definitely inferior to Pandora’s dynamically adjusting streams, Musicovery offers a beautiful flash-based visual [...]
