daylife: glossy news aggregator
launched today, Daylife is the latest contestant entering the already crowded market of news aggregators (competition includes Tailrank, Techmeme and its sister-sites, Newsvine and of course Google News). Daylife combines automatic news-aggregation around the web with a traditional team of editors picking cover-stories and inter-linking rich media and articles. the result of these efforts is a news-site with a certain “glossy” feeling which other aggregators don’t offer. besides hi-quality & hi-res images, Daylife does a good job in grouping and connecting articles around its subjects, f.e. “People”, “Organizations” or “Places”. navigational channels include World, Business, Celebrity, Politics, Science, Technology & Sports, the selection of articles seems to target a quite broad, mainstream audience, with a lot of mainstream media as primary sources. as others have mentioned, Daylife currently lacks some of Web 2.0’s prime features, like on-site comments, customization based on preferences or even subscription via RSS. still, I guess Daylife is a product that might have lots of appeal, especially among less tech-savvy, mainstream users.
